Opening Remarks:
Welcome to the June edition of the Transit Talk Online Chat with me, SacRT’s General Manager/CEO, Henry Li. A quick reminder before we get started, that we will be taking July off from the Online Chat as we do each year due to the 4th of July holiday. We will resume in August.

If you will be attending any local events for the 4th of July, SacRT can take you there! Transit options are available for the Folsom Pro Rodeo, Elk Grove’s Salute to Red, White & Blue, and Rancho Cordova’s 4th of July Celebration. Visit sacrt.com/4thofJuly for event details, eligibility requirements, and service schedules.

SacRT is continuing Blue Line station upgrades this month to prepare for new low-floor light rail trains. Temporary station closures and bus bridge service are scheduled during two periods in June. From June 12–14, service will be disrupted between Swanston and Watt/I-80 stations. From June 17–20, service will be disrupted between 47th Avenue and Cosumnes River College stations. Riders should plan for additional travel time. Learn more at sacrt.com/BlueLine.

On Wednesday, June 10, 2026, SacRT and the City of West Sacramento are hosting a public workshop to share updates and gather community feedback on the Downtown Riverfront Streetcar Project. The in-person meeting will take place from 6 p.m. – 7 p.m. at the West Sacramento Community Center, where attendees can review design concepts and learn more about the project. The proposed 1.8-mile streetcar line will connect West Sacramento and downtown Sacramento, improving mobility and access to destinations on both sides of the river. Details at sacrt.com/Streetcar.

Starting Wednesday, July 1, 2026, SacRT Flex will expand service hours by adding weekday trips beginning at 6 a.m. and introducing Saturday service from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. SacRT Flex is an on-demand, shared-ride shuttle service for eligible seniors, low-income individuals, and persons with disabilities, offering affordable curb-to-curb transportation in nine zones throughout Sacramento County. To learn more and apply for this service, visit sacrt.com/Flex.

Great news for students and families, the new RydeFreeRT card is now available, providing fare-free rides on SacRT buses and light rail for youth in Transitional Kindergarten through 12th grade through June 30, 2027, thanks to support provided by local jurisdictions and school districts. Cards are available at participating schools, school districts, local libraries, and the SacRT Customer Service Center, making it easier than ever for students to get where they need to go. Simply show a valid RydeFreeRT card when boarding and enjoy fare-free transit throughout the Sacramento region. Learn more about the program at sacrt.com/RydeFreeRT.

Now let’s get to your questions!

Antelope, CA:  Hey Henri Li. Stephen here. It’s coming on ten years since you guys raised fares. Any plans to do so in the near future? Also, what is the tentative timeline of working on the rest of the blue line stations to prepare for testing the s700s? Thirdly and finally, any plans in the SacRT 50 long range thing to bring bus service to areas such as the Antelope 95843 area that is a “bus desert”?

Reply:  Hello Stephen. Thanks for the question. While fares were raised a little over ten years ago, We actually lowered our fares for the first time in agency history in 2019. We are making good progress on the Blue Line station platform modifications and should have all stations complete by next summer. We continue to update the constructions plans on our website at sacrt.com/BlueLine. We also continue to progress our Short Range and Long Range Transit Plans. Both will consider service in the Antelope area and our fare structure. You can read more about it at sacrt.com/SacRT2050.

Davis, CA:  When will Capitol Corridor transfers be enabled in the Transit Connect app? Many transit users rely on this to move regionally. Dropping ZipPass, that has this function, without enabling it in Transit Connect double charges users and is unfair.

Reply:  SacRT will be bringing a new transfer agreement model to the Board on Monday, June 8th,  for CCJPA passengers. If approved, CCJPA passengers will simply need to  show their current CCJPA ticket to SacRT bus operators and transit ambassadors rather than obtaining additional SacRT fare media elsewhere. This will simplify the transfer process for passengers moving forward.

Davis, CA:  Will you consider adding bike trailer cars to each Light rail vehicle? https://www.reddit.com/r/transit/comments/1c0gysq/rack_railway_in_stuttgart/ We can continue using the high floor vehicles to increase frequency.

Reply:  Thank you for the question and suggestion. We are always looking for better ways to integrate bicycles with our transit options. A bike trailer seems like an interesting option, but would require further retrofit of our platforms first. We are looking at other ways to improve the cycling experience including the installation of new electronic bike lockers at our light rail stations.

Sacramento, CA:  Hello, I am not sure if there is a better place to send this request but on sacrt.com's main page, in the navigation menus at the top of the page (Ride, Services, Fares, About, Connect). Could you move the Connect menu so it's to the right of the About Menu? At least on desktop it's impossible to click the menu options under Ride because as soon as you pass the cursor over the menu options that menu becomes superimposed by the menu under Connect. Moving the Connect menu so it's to the right of the About menu instead of under the Ride menu seems like an easy fix. Thank you.

Reply:  Thank you for bringing this to our attention and for taking the time to share your experience with the website navigation. The "Connect" menu is currently designed to appear on the far right, just to the left of the “Alerts” button. It sounds like what you encountered may be related to how the drop-down menus open when the cursor passes over them. We recommend hovering your cursor slightly higher as you move across the menu bar to avoid triggering the next drop-down. However, we will share your feedback with our web team so they can take another look and ensure the menu behavior is functioning as intended. If you continue to experience the issue, please feel free to reply with a screenshot or let us know what browser and device you’re using, this will help us troubleshoot further. You can email that information to our Customer Advocacy team at customeradvocacy@sacrt.com.

Sacramento, CA:  I am interested in the ridership data for routes 138 (Causeway Connection) and 142 (Airport Express) is the most recent data publicly available?

Reply:  The #138 Causeway Connection averages about 350 boardings per day, between SacRT and Yolobus. The #142 Airport averages about 110 boardings per day. The #138 Causeway Connection moves a little more than 13 people per vehicle hour, over the course of the day, which makes it below average for SacRT routes, however, it is funded entirely by UC Davis and federal CMAQ grants, and because it is an intercity route, it also helps take a lot more vehicle-miles off the road from private motorists.

Sacramento, CA:  What is the status of rolling out real time arrival updates on light rail? The alerts in the Alerts app are still generally not helpful. If a Blue Line train is experiencing a 15 minute delay, but it doesn't say which train (i.e. which trip) and where the train is currently located, it's not a helpful message since regular frequency is every 15 minutes anyway. I was recently at 16th Street waiting to transfer to a Sunrise-bound Gold Line train and the train came on time, but 2 minutes before the train arrived I got an alert on the app that "a Sunrise-bound Gold Line train" was delayed by 15+ minutes. For these alerts to make sense in the app you need to communicate which train (i.e. which trip) is delayed, and where the train is currently located.

Reply:  This is an active project that our IT team is currently working with our vendor on. We don't have a go-live date yet, but as soon as we have a project timeline, we will be sure to share an update.

North Highlands, CA:  What is the status and latest update that you can provide on the Watt/I-80 Transit Center Improvement Project? Does Regional Transit expect this critical project to wrap up and conclude by the next GM Chat on August 7th or before?

Reply:  We are working with our contractor on a final completion date, which is expected to occur this summer, but we don't have an official date at this time.

Downtown Sacramento, CA:  How are things going between Regional Transit and the Wilton Rancheria as far as the Railyards Boulevard Station construction? Do you anticipate that this under construction station will open on or around August 16th or not until sometime in 2027?

Reply:  We are planning for a late summer opening for the 7th & Railyards Station. Most likely, we will open the new station and the Green Line in August, but the specific date is not confirmed yet.

Sacramento, CA:  Can this page on your website please be updated before ZipPass is discontinued on the 15th? https://www.sacrt.com/othertransitagencies/ Under the information for Yolobus it still says SacRT fares purchased on ZipPass are accepted on Yolobus but my understanding is that is no longer going to be the case with Transit Connect. For example, if I want to take light rail to downtown Sac and then transfer to Yolobus to go to a River Cats/A's game, or to Yolobus route 42B to go to the airport. Having to buy two different fares changes the math on whether it's worth taking transit if it means transferring between SacRT and Yolobus unless you have a daily/semimonthly/monthly pass. Can you please clarify? Thank you.

Reply:  Thanks for letting us know. We will work on getting this page updated. You do need at least a daily pass to transfer to Yolobus from light rail, not a single ride ticket.

Marisol Village, CA:  Good Day and Happy Friday, Henry. I am a longtime resident of Marisol Village and want to thank you and all the partners involved in the construction of the Dos Rios light rail station. Do you and your team have an estimated opening date for this station yet, as I have the feeling that we will not be receiving any updates through the GM Chat in July with the holiday weekend occurring around the same time of the month as the GM Chat would otherwise take place. Thank you.

Reply:  Hi, we are getting close to the new Dos Rios Station opening, but we don't have an official opening date yet. We expect it to be open by early September at the latest. Once we have an official date, we will be sharing on our website and social media.

South Sacramento, CA:  What are the dates of any scheduled planned bus bridges coming up in the months of July and August? I am currently preparing for the two you have schedule in June 12-14 and 17-20, but would like to also prepare for any service disruptions and additional travel time you have set forth for both July and August as well. Thank you.

Reply:  We don't have the plans from the contractor for July and August yet, but hope to have the July plans by late next week. We continue to update the website at sacrt.com/BlueLine with the service disruptions plans.

Citrus Heights, CA:  Besides Sacramento Regional Transit, I also ride Placer County Transit and Roseville Transit. Would you happen to know, in any communications you have had with them, as to when they will fully be onboard with you and the folks at YoloBus on accepting fare payments on the “TransitConnect” mobile app. They still appear to be a bit stubborn in June and will only accept fare payments via the physical Connect Card and cash. To this day, they won’t even accept tap to pay, let alone Transit Connect. Thank you.

Reply:  We don't have the official date to get all regional Transit Agencies on the new Transit Connect app yet, but we are hoping for this fall. We will check in with Yolobus to make sure their operators are trained on accepting the new app.

Sacramento, CA:  What is the timelime for projects to be completed this summer, including the completion of Dos Rios station, the Green Line reopening including the new 7th & Railyards station, and the Watt/I-80 Northbound staircase and its bus tents, as well as other parts of the Watt/I-80 transit center such as the Southbound staircase groundfloor and finishing the incomplete southbound wood panel bus tents?

Reply:  Most of this work will be finished this summer, but we do not yet have specific end dates for these projects. We are working to complete them as quickly as possible

Sacramento, CA:  Is there a way to request to add bus stops on a bus route that the bus already travels through? For example, adding bus stops on Folsom Blvd & Ramona Ave on Route 26.

Reply:  We are taking a look at all of our routes and connections now as part of our Comprehensive Operational Analysis to see what we can do to improve service. A new stop at Ramona may make sense to help serve all the new housing in that area. I will forward this idea to our COA team, but also please email our team at coa@sacrt.com. You can also follow the COA project at www.sacrt.com/coa.

Folsom, CA:  Since the original SacRT 2050 survey has long since closed, how can we submit our ideas for future routes or improvements on the SacRT bus or light rail system?

Reply:  Please email them to our planning team at coa@sacrt.com.

Sacramento, CA:  Does SacRT have a ridership target for the streetcar project? Ridership on Yolobus's local routes 37, 40, and 41, which effectively cover nearly the same projected route, don't have tons of ridership or unmet capacity. I do think the Amtrak station should be better connected by transit to West Sac, but is a streetcar the best way to accomplish that at the current price tag, instead of proposing a realignment of some of these local Yolobus routes to serve the Amtrak station, for example?

Reply:  The studies we commissioned indicate we should expect 730,00 riders for the opening year (2030) and 1.4 million riders per year projected at full build-out of surrounding land uses (2050). There is so much development still planned for the Bridge District in West Sacramento, and also continued added density and other development on the East side of the river.

Sacramento, CA:  Could RT experiment with the route 138 route and include 2 stops between Stockton Blvd & Colonial Way and the Mondavi Center westbound, on some trips? One stop would be at the 29th Street light rail station to connect from the Gold Line by turning left on P Street and left on 29th Street, and then continuing on 29th Street which curves around to the right to W Street, continue down to W & 19th to connect via a short walk from the Blue Line at Broadway, and then get on the freeway after that (from W Street)? I go to Davis a decent amount but it's not that easy to get to Stockton & Colonial via transit to make the connection in the first place (10 minute walk from 39th Street, or connecting from bus route 38 only).

Reply:  Thank you for the suggestion. It is very difficult and costly to "experiment" with new or expanded service like you describe. However, we are in the middle of a Comprehensive Operational Analysis, and we have some modeling tools that might help us in this regard. I will ask our COA team to look into it.

Natomas, CA:  With State Workers returning to office 4x a week next month, will SacRT be increasing bus frequencies of over-impacted routes and rush hour? Rush hour commutes are often standing room only with disabled passengers being denied entry due to lack of space. This is substantially worse with the students-ride-free program

Reply:  We are working with several state agencies to understand the impacts of the return to the office order and doing what we can to accommodate those commuters. However, we cannot add additional buses without additional revenue. We are hoping the state will add subsidies for their riders when they return to the office.

Sacramento, CA:  What's going on with the frequent cancellations on Bus Route 11 the last few weeks? Also, want to say thank you for the driver who does the first bus of the morning is awesome. It can be a difficult route, but he always manages to keep the bus under control and pleasant for commuters.

Reply:  Thank you for your comments and for recognizing the operator who drives the first Route 11 trip of the morning. We appreciate hearing positive feedback and will make sure it is shared with the operator. Regarding the recent Route 11 cancellations, SacRT has experienced higher than normal operator callouts in recent weeks. At the same time, we are providing bus bridge service to support the Light Rail platform modification project, which has placed additional demands on our available resources. While we work hard to cover all scheduled service, there are times when service adjustments become necessary. If you could contact SacRT Customer Service and provide the specific dates and times of the Route 11 trips you are referring to, we would be happy to review them and provide more detailed information regarding those particular cancellations.

Sacramento, CA:  How many tickets have been generated and how has violations been trending since implementation of the bus camera system and cars parked in the bus lanes? Also, with SacRT receiving a portion of the fines issued, what has this money been used to fund?

Reply:  From when we started issuing citation in late 2024 through December 31, 2025, a total of 19,238 citations were issued for bus stop violations. Over time, enforcement has resulted in a significant reduction in violations, with citations declining by about 45 percent between March and December 2025. This reduction has improved accessibility and safety for riders boarding and exiting transit buses. The 2025 citations generated about $440,000 for SacRT.

Rancho Cordova, CA:  I’m curious as to when work will begin along the Gold Line stations from 23rd Street to Historic Folsom Station to chain off and close the mini-hi ramps/platforms. In recent months, I have observed guards and ambassadors address riders and people that with the low-floor trains now in operation along the Gold Line that operators will no longer stop and serve the mini-hi platforms. While most people that are addressed about this are friendly and do comply to move to the new low floor platforms, some get agitated and verbally aggressive towards the guards and the ambassadors in the stations. I recently witnessed last week an individual that yelled at an ambassador like they were being told what to or what not to do. From my perspective, it seemed like the ambassador was just doing their job and providing a friendly reminder. Ambassadors seem to be unfairly targeted and abused when all they are doing is doing their job. In situations I have observed, I hope that they will be compensated more than fairly for what they have to unexpectedly deal with from time to time. I wish that when a person is addressed in a friendly manner that they respond back in a friendly manner. Some people (passengers) out there on the Regional Transit system and network just do not know what courtesy and respect is towards staff wearing the uniform on an everyday basis, and that needs to be seriously addressed. I thank your frontline staff that is doing their job. They deserve only to be treated with respect, honor, and dignity all the time.

Reply:  Thank you for your concern for our employees. They do a great job, every day of making our system safer, more secure and easier to ride for everyone. We do not currently have a project to decommission the mini-high ramps that were needed for our legacy light rail vehicles, but I will look into interim measures to make sure our riders know they are no longer needed on the Gold line

Closing Remarks:
Thank you for your questions. The next session of Transit Talk with the General Manager/CEO will take place on Friday, August 7, 2026.
